One-stop shop for sheet metalwork

AVW Fabrications is a family-run sheet metal fabrication business. We established in 1988.

AVW provides trusted and efficient help with:

Family business

Originally based in Wigston, we moved to nearby Whetstone. Increased demand meant we needed more capacity so in 2017 we moved next door to our sister company, Michael Smith Switchgear Ltd.

This meant our current workshop, on the Braunstone Frith Industrial Estate, has a workshop which is 10,000 square feet larger than what we had previously.

With the move came further investment and expansion of our services.

State-of-the-art Amada machinery was purchased and we also added powder coating to our  list of fabrication services.

Emily Smith - Managing Director

Emily is a multi-award-winning business leader in the East Midlands. She is a Chartered Accountant and Chartered Tax Advisor.

Emily moved into manufacturing in 2013 after eight years with an accountancy practice.

Emily is a former Chair of the ICAEW Manufacturing Advisory Group, leading discussion nationally on opportunities and challenges relating to manufacturers across the UK.

She is particularly interested in employee health, safety and wellbeing. She is a keen advocate for environmental issues and ensuring that manufacturing career opportunities are embedded within education as part of her role of Enterprise Advisor.

AVW Fabrications - Director Sean Smith

Sean Smith - Director

Sean is an experienced engineer and director who is leading his sector’s drive towards modernisation in UK manufacturing.

Sean pushes the businesses forward for increased sustainability and safety standards in UK manufacturing.

He led design changes and the testing programme for BS EN IEC 61439 and is the Chair of BEAMA’s ESPG Management Committee.

A trained mental health first aider, Sean has a keen interest in partnership working to increase opportunities and pathway into apprenticeships for future engineers.

Richard Hamilton-Parkes - Operations Manager

Richard started his career in Electrical and Mechanical Engineering and quickly found his niche in the fabrication industry.

Now, having 20 years’ worth of experience, he is the Operations & Production Manager for AVW Fabrications Limited.

Richard ensures the smooth day-to-day running of the business, looking after workflow, our people and the impact on the environment. With a keen passion for supporting our team, he has also completed his Mental Health First Aider training.

Richard is also a keen advocate in supporting the younger generation so they can learn more about the fabrication and sheet metal work industry, in particular by attending careers fairs as well as hosting students in the workplace

Supporting apprentices

As part of our continuing commitment to our workforce development, we currently employ one Y2 apprentice and one Y3 apprentice.

Increasing sustainability

Sustainability is at the heart of manufacturing at AVW Fabrications.

We started our journey towards becoming Carbon Neutral in 2018 and achieved our target in 2022.

We offset more than 137 tonnes of CO2e across our Group in 2021 and 128 tonnes in 2022 to become certified as Carbon Neutral. We now continue to work to align with the 17 Sustainable Development Goals set by the United Nations.

In the process, we have:

  • Installed LED lighting throughout the factory
  • Fitted 284 solar panels to the roof of our building to produce 102kW of electricity
  • Purchased two electric vans and installed onsite EV chargers
  • Taken ownership of 17 acres of ancient Leicestershire woodland
  • Swapped to sustainable packaging
